How can I actually improve at PVP?

Hello friends! So, here's the thing: I'm 37, with a kid (baby daughter who is my whole world). I don't really have the time to sit down all day and just straight-up play for long sessions anymore. A few hours in the evenings is all I really get, but that's just the reality of getting older (it'll come for you, too, kids!) Check out my crucible.report and you'll see my stats. I'm not the worst player ever, but I'm painfully average. I have my moments where I can clutch that 1v3, but it's inconsistant as hell. I'm basically looking for a very streamlined approach to improvement, if you legends could help. As an example, one thing I recently noticed upon reviewing some gameplay is that my peek-shooting from cover was a bit rough, so I went into a patrol and practiced, then after an hour or two of humping cover to get the candence right, I was able to head into some PvP and practice it against actual human players (still a ways to go, but progress. Yay!) Are there any 'movements' or 'actions' I could practice to be a more valuable teammate? Rumble used to be my go-to for practicing my 1's, but the playlist is all but dead. Ideally, I'd like to hear from those players with 1.5/1.6+ KD's, but at this point I'll take anything lol. Thnaks lots, people! Have a great day :) EDIT: Some fantastic replies so far. Thanks to all who have commented! Keep 'em coming!

 • TACTICS IN-GAME 1. Engage when teammates engage. Deal damage when they do. 2. Play on same side of map as teammates (don't flank). 3. Play near cover. If you are losing a gunfight, return to cover. 4. Use abilities with intent. Don't waste them. 5. Use radar and sound queues to track enemy team. (Learn to use radar! - it tells you the number of, direction of, and elevation of your enemy) 6. Buy time for your team when you are outnumbered 1v2. Attack with your teammates when in a 2v1. 7. Trade “aggro” often / teamshoot. Get an enemy weak and then back off for your teammate to get the kill while you recover. Even if you lose the gunfight, this tactic still works. 8. If possible, don't use same piece of cover as teammate. Use seperate cover down same lane. 9. Throw grenades from left side of cover, melees from right side of cover, and shoot from left side of cover whenever possible. 10. Control the area of the map with the most angles. This allows you to be unpredictable, teamshoot more easily, and generally force the other team to push you. 11. Inspect enemy loadouts often / understand what they are using. SOLO PREP WORK 12. Use consistent guns and abilities. The tighter the match, the tighter the nerves. Consistency trumps all else. (You will have to farm PVE for some good PVP stuff) 13. Use proper armor and armor mods. Max out Revovery, and then max out Mobility if Hunter or Resilience if Titan. Use targeting mods. Use dexterity mods. Use unflinching mods. 14. Learn all the weapon types and their viable ranges. 15. Learn the maps (angles on map, common lanes, distances, call-outs, zone locations, heavy location, spawns, etc.) TEAM PREP WORK 16. Play with a dedicated team or friends you are familiar with. 17. Discuss call-outs, loadouts, and general strategy beforehand.
