Is that it’s an extraction shooter.
Honestly, it just looks slow and kind of boring to play. I don’t find inventory management fun.
I love the lore and the aesthetic of the world but I just don’t see this being successful as an extraction shooter.
Probably be way more popular as a sci-fi COD clone where you unlock attachments and upgrades as you rank up.
Maybe add a 6v6 mode with the AI enemies still present, similar to Attrition in Titanfall.

The problem is not Marathon; it is your expectation of Marathon because you are evaluating it with D2 familiarity. Marathon has to be accepted as an entirely new game just as if it was another game from a different developer. It definitely does NOT need a chaotic 6v6 PvP mode. The game is an extraction shooter, as you acknowledged. The gameplay involves collection and strategy to eliminate AI and other team opponents, not a frantic race to kill them as in D2 PvP. Inventory Management is a short-term problem. The game has been available for only a few days and in the Alpha state. Bungie can reduce the items to be collected, and as players learn the maps and items, they can choose to collect or ignore them. Marathon has enormous potential but is much too early to forecast on how well it will be accepted. No one will know with any degree of certainty until at least a month after its release.
