This is a popular sentiment surrounding Marathon, that is;
'Marathon is not for the Destiny Community',
This is further pushed by the developers of Marathon themselves and after thinking about it for awhile I realized... it's dumb. Not only is it dumb it's also just massively incorrect.
So the idea of this statement is that if you're a fan/ enjoyer of the Destiny franchise you will not like Marathon because it's a different game from Destiny.
To that I say "Why would I not like Marathon if I enjoy Destiny?" How on Earth did you jump to that braindead conclusion!?!
Do you not realize that people play games other than Destiny? Destiny is not an 'all or nothing' kinda game. Even the most die hard Destiny connoisseurs will play different games in completely different genres.
People are not criticizing Marathon because it's not the same as Destiny, they're criticizing it because it's a flawed game, in concept and execution.
This whole "-blank- is not for you" is just a lazy and boring way to invalidate feedback from people you disagree with.
'Marathon is not for the Destiny Community', So the idea of this statement is that if you're a fan/ enjoyer of the Destiny franchise you will not like Marathon because it's a different game from Destiny.
Disagree. I don't think that is the idea behind the statement. I think the idea behind the statement is that most Destiny players seem to be pve people that don't like to play pvp and lose all their loot. And if you're a person that hates pvp, needs a story, wants to never lose their loot to a guy camping in the bushes, this game might not be something you like.
This is a popular sentiment surrounding Marathon, that is; 'Marathon is not for the Destiny Community',
It isn't. It's for those who want to play Marathon or are fans of extraction shooters.
This is further pushed by the developers of Marathon themselves and after thinking about it for awhile I realized... it's dumb. Not only is it dumb it's also just massively incorrect.
I think it's a good thing to point out that the game isn't meant for people who don't want to play it.
So the idea of this statement is that if you're a fan/ enjoyer of the Destiny franchise you will not like Marathon because it's a different game from Destiny.
I don't think that's what they are trying to come across as. I think their more trying to set up the standard that if you enjoy something like destiny and don't like pvp, then Marathon won't be the game for them.
To that I say "Why would I not like Marathon if I enjoy Destiny?" How on Earth did you jump to that braindead conclusion!?!
I don't think that's what they said. There obviously will be overlap from the games and those who play them. I'm pretty sure what they actually said was that if you're a fan of destiny, that doesn't mean you'll be a fan of Marathon. I personally like destiny for it's pve and I like playing extraction shooters so I'll probably enjoy Marathon.
Do you not realize that people play games other than Destiny? Destiny is not an 'all or nothing' kinda game. Even the most die hard Destiny connoisseurs will play different games in completely different genres.
Not all of them. There's a lot of people who only seem to play destiny on a daily basis. I don't understand those people and how they can only play 1 game for so long.
People are not criticizing Marathon because it's not the same as Destiny, they're criticizing it because it's a flawed game, in concept and execution.
That's just a personal opinion. Everything I've seen is people enjoying it and looking forward to it coming out. And that's just from the alpha, which isn't even the final version of the game with everything polished.
This whole "-blank- is not for you" is just a lazy and boring way to invalidate feedback from people you disagree with.
A lot of the "feedback" I've been seeing is mainly people who have no original thoughts, just hating on it to hate on it, or the best one I've seen is a person who's just making up false information about the game. From what I've seen, you've been able to give your own thoughts on the game, unlike some of these other people.

I think its remarkable how thats considered an unreasonable statement And by remarkable, I mean another word that starts with "re" and has "special" as a synonym, but I'm not allowed to say that one

Sounds a lot like Rachel Zegler, oh well.

Call me catty if you need to. But I found that statement in itself to be massively insulting. So I've supported you this long only to be told you dont want my business any more, and you want to court new customers instead. Fine. -blam!- you. I'll enjoy Borderlands 4 I guess! Good Luck, Bungie.

There are people saying that to shut down criticism, but there are also people saying it to set expectations clearly. Bungie explained that Marathon isn’t supposed to be a successor to Destiny - they want to run both games alongside each other. The 2 games are intended for 2 different audiences (with some overlap). Someone from Bungie said Marathon is not for people who only want PvE experiences. To my knowledge, nobody from Bungie has said “Marathon is not for the Destiny community”. Correct me if I’m wrong. In addition, preferences for this and that will differ from person to person. Some design choices are made to appeal to specific types of players, with little concession to everyone else. “Good” or “bad” design choice can depend on who you ask, but sometimes the reason we don’t like something is because we are not the intended audience. In short, it depends on the context when people say “Marathon is not for you”. Sometimes it’s lazy, sometimes it’s valid, sometimes it’s up for debate.

I liked division but from what I see about marathon it's not for me.

I'd say the vast majority of Destiny pve players won't touch Marathon.
