Nine... Sixty.
960
The Endless Night and the Flower Game.
960 instances, potential permutations, of our existence.
960 versions of Cayde.
960 versions of us.

Is a variant created to solve the dilemma of Chess. The dilemma of Chess, as Bobby Fischer critiqued, is the game is solved. Improvisation beyond the meta, is an indicator for Human error.
Thus, Chess is more about who loses rather than who wins....
IF the variables remain static, you can make the right move OR the wrong move. And victory is mostly governed via memorization and pattern recognition.
Now, arguably the only thing that changes with the 960, is the scale of that illusion, as the back line randomization can only have 960 permutations mirrored on both sides.
Though for the purposes of Human competition, it would create a much more honest game with each starting position representative of the scale of options for the traditional configuration.
Chosen at the start of each instance or game.
That's the idea of it.
As it relates to "The Endless Night" - our existence is a looping simulation, there's different Saints as we learned in Echoes. There's different Caydes as he indicates in his own words, [i]"I hope I get it right this time".

I think it’s just Bungie scraping the bottom of the bottom of the barrel.

It makes me so very excited to see people with exceptional knowledge they get to bring to a game we all love and play that may be chalk full of great information. How this all fits together is a mystery but, I feel like you are right there at the answer. I do also wonder if there is a connection to Kings fall and Oryx somehow.. simply due to the name and no King in the pieces we have picked up. Thankyou for such an amazing post.

Edited by jhermannITJ: 4/24/2025 3:13:28 AMThe Metrics... should they be important in the coming weeks. I went through 7 different videos, in addition to my own tally... as I did it. 1. The Pieces ARE NOT random as is being said. EVERYONE gets the same 60 pieces as follows: White Pawns - 15 Conversion Pawns - 8 Deletion Pawns - 7 White Rooks - 3 White Knights - 14 Black Knights - 2 White Bishops - 9 White Queens - 2 Things to note: 1 Queen is found in CoB - my theory is it represents Savathun. 1 Queen is found amongst the secrets in the Nether - Mara Sov Both Black Knights are found in the Edz... now in the Dark Forest the shadows might confuse you but the other one is clearly Black/Gray as the base is a different color. So, I might be wrong about there being 2 Black Knights... but there is at least 1 for sure. 9 Bishops - most likely represents the Nine. 3 Rooks - my theory is; represents... 3 disciples of the Gardener. 7 Deletion Pawns - 7 deaths next year. 8 Conversions - 8 people will switch sides This is complete speculation, 14-15 White Knights? I have no clues to what that might represent. And in fact, the theory might be coincidence respective the values correlating to people. They might be a cipher (key) or puzzle - the metrics. 😇👍💠 2nd Note: The King is the only piece missing. Because there's never been a king... yet 👀. When it comes to the Flower Game. We can change that. The more I ponder about it, I only think there is actually ONE BLACK KNIGHT, the shadows in the Dark Forest are probably meant to confuse us. IF there is ONE Black Knight... that represents our character. "The Knife". They're all white pieces except for 1. And we've been a pawn/tool since the beginning... The Winnower doesn't need an army (black)... the God of "Nothing" & "no one". Just a Knife. Us. The Black Knight. One of the conversions too... I think there can be overlap. For example, a white pawn converted into the sole Black Knight (Us). Or A Rook that's actually a White Pawn that gets deleted.
(Mara Sov)
Or Bishops that get converted into White Pawns (The fractured factions of the Nine). Or A White Pawn that advances to the back line black side? Possible Spoilers:
That's Crow I think. I'm taking a little liberty... because a pawn becomes a Queen when that happens, but I interpret that as Crow becoming the FIRST Awoken King by the end of next year - my theory.
3rd Note: My analysis was fairly straight forward: here's how you could replicate it. I reviewed 7 different guides 'showing' acquisition of all the pieces. "Showing" being relevant... as for most of the pieces in the videos it showed each piece being acquired. I was able to compare each video section by section to confirm the pieces were not random. The outliers were the 9 pieces found from the Nether secrets... ONLY one video ACTUALLY 'showed' all 9 pieces. However, by cross referencing the excerpts for the secret gained pieces in the other 6 videos and against my own tally, as I did it, I was able to confirm those pieces are also the same for everyone. I tallied the sections in each guide... then made sure each tally equaled 60. Then combined the metrics for each section to get the full breakdown of pieces. I was going to be lazy about it... but Eso's vid didn't show every secret piece. Fallout's vid... not every secret piece. Kackis... not every piece. GamerTV... nope. 2 more ectaras, lol. But I found one that did. I couldn't be lazy about it. I did my homework.

I had written a decent response, I feel, but one swipe and oops, all gone. From Westworld, how many lines of code sum up the human consciousness? So you have a base consciousness, this every nothing (evidently I haven't been keeping up too much), or... The Last Answer by Isaac Asimov. This eternal voice, this electric state of the universe. It wants an end, but it is eternal. We could design it's end, if we defined it's very nature within our existence, but honestly it's eternal and ran multiple variations. Doesn't matter it's always reborn, the cycle remains constant. But we can imagine new takes on reality after its initial destruction, or locking the base pattern for reality in. I am an entity who's sole purpose in life is destruction of itself. We are solving this dilemma of our immortality, like Odin seeing his death and trying to circumvent it, we designed this death and watch as pieces fall into place....because it saves...everyone, not just humans.
