Should it not activate on one hit/ the moment you deal damage?
Has it just been bugged this whole time and nobody cares to fix it?
I'll put whole mags into people in crucible and the dude will NOT go like if im going to put myself out of cover to use proc this ability, id hope it works, but it just sometimes decides not to. Its just so frustrating man and NOBODY talks about it :/

I'm currently using Briar, and that actually seems more reliable enough. It still stalls from time to time, but not like normal. Problem there is that an exotic item shouldn't need to be required to get it to work *mostly* as intended.

Edited by JazzyPaladin477: 4/21/2025 7:49:09 PMIt is incredibly frustrating. I love it when it doesn’t take off in a gunfight, but then does so after I have killed the last opponent, and it just wizzes off to some quiet corner of the map to chill. To pour gas on the fire child has to pair with the most inconsistant random melee in the game(the purple fart) and the most random super in the game (where she goes nobody knows…)

I rather it be reworked. Have it stay on you like the other 'souls' and simply weaken enemies in front of you while giving you grenade or life (rift depending). Having it fly out (or not) and often getting stuck in geometry, it's just too many things that can go south.

Yeah, it's very annoying. I think child of the old gods could use a little bit of a rework. "Using your class ability gives you a spare grenade charge, throwing that grenade creates a child of the old gods on impact." Basically, make it work like gunpowder gamble, but it gets readied from using your class ability instead of getting kills.

Yeah it’s inconsistent, and sometimes even if it goes out it goes into walls etc. but still I like it it’s one of the main reasons I play voidwalker.
-
From toying a little more with it, The Child will only lock on to something if you are staring at it; otherwise it’s inconsistent if you’re just peaking.
-
Agreed. Sometimes it just doesn't go OR gets stuck on a wall. :-/

Because it's not a hunter ability, so bungie doesn't care

You have to have a clear line of sight on the opponent for a second or 2. If peek shooting it won't go out
