It finally happened just like I thought it would.....

For context, my Steam account was compromised at the beginning of the month (it has since been fixed). Someone used my Steam credentials to log into my Bungie.net profile, change my Destiny name, changed the genders on 2 of my characters, left the clan I was in and deleted all of my Bungie Friends list. If this was all I could realistically deal with it and move on, but it wasn't. They also took the opportunity to link 2 of their accounts to my Bungie profile Cross Save. I had only ever linked my Steam account and now there was an Epic games account and an Xbox account linked that I didn't recognize both with similar names that were very different than my own username. I was told there was no way to get these off of my Bungie profile without contacting the respective platforms, neither of which would do anything to remedy the situation. So now that I've gone through the process of shoring up my account securities, changing my Steam password and trying to move on from this, something stuck out in the back of my head which was that this individual now had a permanent skeleton key into my account no matter how many passwords I changed or how many 2FA measures I took, because they just had to use their Xbox or Epic account to log into my characters on their own system. Everything was quiet for the last couple of weeks until today when I had a weasel error kick me out. I logged back in and my Warlock was missing. Then my Hunter disappeared. I closed the game again to see if it would refresh properly and found that the only character left on my log-in screen was a titan, 1916 light level and fully reset in the campaign. I've been playing this game for 5 years and just lost all progress because nobody at Bungie can help fix my account. I get that there is a token process used from those other sites login credentials and account un-linking has now been magically disabled going forward, but there HAS to be a way for me to verify with someone at Bungie that my Steam account is the ONLY one that is supposed to be on my Bungie.net, profile and have them remove the Xbox and Epic Games accounts from their end. I just lost 5 years of progress and if it comes down to "Which one of us gives up on the account first" I'm probably done, because nothing I do will be able to stop them from doing this again and again whenever they feel like it. And there isn't a soul that I can find to talk to in person about this after spending hundreds of dollars supporting this game over the last 5 years. If anyone has any idea of something I can do or someone I can reach out to I'm pleading because otherwise I'm just plain screwed. Thanks in advance for anyone reading this who has an idea or is able to help me out.

  • Hi there, Due to mandatory security policy, Bungie is not able to remove connected platform accounts from Bungie.net profiles under any circumstances. If your account has been compromised, we are unable to assist you, and you will need to contact your platform's support. Account security is up to each player, and we encourage players to secure their game accounts by following our Account Security Guide so that they don’t have a chance to be compromised.

    • Can you please explain why steam or Xbox cannot ban those profiles so they no longer can be a threat?
