Like, I understand that Chaperone is Notorious, but Duality is more consistent, requiring you to not have to be so precise in close range, and being able to handle threats that require precision more consistently, albeit at a slightly shorter range. I’ve played around with both in PVE and PVP, and Duality has been far more consistent in both, while Chaperone barely keeps up in PVP, and can’t even excel in most PVE situations, due to there being more consistent options with better perks.
I genuinely want to understand, and I’m not trying to sound like I’m attacking anyone who likes the Chaperone. It’s a fun weapon to use from time to time, but it feels a bit too undercooked and overhyped. While duality feels pretty good, yet I hardly see anyone talk about it. I’d appreciate any insight that anyone can provide.

One is needed to kill people who are "just so beefy".

Because it was a season pass weapon. All season pass weapons are okay, but not great and I'm fairly certain bungie does this intentionally. Witherhoard is probably the only good one, which is why it's the only exotic to not receive buffs later in it's life.

Chaperone's issue is similar to Coldheart. It's perk is literally now a frame. "Fire a single slug precision round" Another issue is that it's not technically a pin-point slug. I don't remember what video it was but a person did a comparison and against some bosses it was dealing less than a normal pin-point since it wasn't getting the bonus precision that normal slugs do. So it has both a perk that's just a frame now and a damage issue due to being an old weapon. It's secondary perk is pretty good though.

One makes funny whip-crack sound. One does not.

Depends on which slot your primary is in. I’ve been using Rose so Duality is my go-to. Not the biggest fan of Chappy.

I used the Rose + Duality combo all the time, imo I think it's a better Exotic utility wise since it's both a Slug and Precision. But both perform just as well as eachother when it comes to Slug frame imo, both great weapons either way.

A nerf to controller aim assist fixes slugs

Chaperone is 100% better in PvP. Slightly better range, significantly faster handling, built in Lightweight, and a perk that makes it more than ridiculous. Duality has consistency at point blank range and a fast reload. It’s definitely better than a legendary but Chappy is definitely ahead. In PvE however both are kinda funny. Chaperone can absolutely delete something with its perk active. And not that it can activate in 2 crits w/o a kill it’s really neat. Problem is its reload isn’t great and you need crits. Duality’s perk got a massive QoL a little while back. The gun hits like a truck when fully active. So both are good. Chappy is a bit ahead in PvP while duality is a bit ahead in PvE

while i haven’t seen much about the pve side of chappy, in pvp it is the best slug in the game.. with some practice, you can make some crazy far shots. so many times i’ve just pulled the trigger to be granted a free headshot from a mile away. chaperone has also helped me clutch so many 1v3’s in trials due to the roadborn perk.

I don’t like duality because it’s annoying to have to hipfire for the pellet mode
