Lord of every nothing- Mercury’s IF maybe?

The whole willing into existence and its lack of memory implies it’s wholly new. Especially with lore setting the precedent for it happening in other ways. So I’m hoping it’s something new but we all know to hedge our bets when it comes to guessing. If it is new. the name seems problematic. Cause what does “every nothing” have to do with the ascendant plane? I can’t think of anything. So with that doubt in mind, I speculated on the Nine angle. Mercury was Taken to the Ascendant plane and hasn’t returned. They are bands of dark matter threaded through planetary cores. The DM bands are the mind, the cores are the body. Destiny lore, though, separates the mind and body. The mind can live without a body, the body without a mind. Mercury was hollowed out and its core repurposed into the Infinite Forest, a massive simulator. This however never killed the Nine based on Mercury, so despite its core being changed, it still lives. So the IF is a simulator for what? They experiment with what-ifs scenarios and paths to victory. All of which do not truly exist and 99.9999999% will never exist. Only one will, the path for victory but obviously that won’t happen. So almost quite literally, everything that won’t ever happen. Every nothing. And by being moved, it lost its interaction with life. Which essentially made it brain dead. Would returning bring back its old memories or start over? If it lost its mind and only regained its body, it would only know what it is. A giant what if simulator, every nothing. And it’s sorta paracausal too in nature, as things it simulates can escape into reality wholly real, as we found out with Saint-14. A bit of a word game, sure, but hardly the first clever semantics has been used to connect dots. Anyway, I’m hoping for something new but given the thought had some merit to me, I wanted to share. Thoughts?

  • Mercury returned after RoN, Bungie talked about it in the act 2 livestream, Io is still gone (despite the lore saying otherwise) but other than that the rest of the celestial bodies that were gone were returned.

    • Even if it’s not the Nine, I expect they’ll shown immediate interest in this Lord of Every Nothing. Given that it’s seeming formation from the collective desire for a master from the Taken would mirror how life gives the Nine consciousness. Could be how they play into the epilogue, showing up in the aftermath now that the Hive situation is settled to deal with the other matter at hand in Heresy.

Not problematic... The Winnower. The Lord of every nothing. Doesn't have an army. Doesn't have vassals or Disciples. The fire that kills the overgrowth. That prunes the Garden of rot, sparking tinder, and weeds. The only thing the Winnower has is its Knife. We're the knife. ""The world is not built on the laws they love… Not with peace, but by victory at any means." —The Winnower [This tablet was recovered from Savathûn's throne world when Alak-Hul, the Lightblade, was slain. It now sits idly in your possession. No whispers coax you to listen. No edicts compel you to act. Nevertheless, you stare unwaveringly at the etched stone.] "Lightbearer. You're so serious about all of this." "It's just a game." "You want to shape the world but don't have the stomach for the 'wrong' kind of violence." "So, you stare at stone or glass, trying to invoke the Deep with control." "We are already more acquainted than you remember." "Can you hear me now, over the whiners and would-be gods?" "Do you know that I consider you a frustrating friend?" "And yet you point a gun, even when there is still so much between us." "You know this only ends one way." "Then kill it. I dare you."" •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• That's the Lord of every nothing. We will fail. The Gardener will win. As it NEEDS to happen. There's been multiple versions of us, •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• "We are already more acquainted than you remember." "Can you hear me now, over the whiners and would-be gods?" "Do you know that I consider you a frustrating friend?" "And yet you point a gun, even when there is still so much between us." We're the Knife. As I said almost 3 years ago. We will eventually remember in Destiny 2: Dark Future. The Light made us forget. The Darkness is our salvation... through Ruin sayeth the Tablets. The above is the lore from the Tablets of Ruin, the artifact for Episode Heresy. Tablets of Ruin
