Disregarding the dozens of other buffs and changes heavy Swords need (as a whole and individually), at the very least they should be able to kill minors and weaker elite enemies in a single swing [with no damage bonuses active] at the highest difficulties.
Nearly every special weapon archetype now has this capability, and with the amount of risk involved in using a Sword (baring a couple specific loadouts), it doesn't make sense that in high level content, minors take 2 swings, while weaker majors/elites take 3.

Swords have been in a bad spot ever since Bungie adopted the mentality that close range damage shouldn’t be optimal/sustainable. Unless you’re using strongholds, you just get stomped to death by bosses and the damage is either not substantial or requires to much to get the most out of it. As for add clear, it feels like a waste to use ammo on red bars and yellow bars feel like they take [i]too much[/i] ammo to kill. Not to mention the weird clash animation that takes 4 seconds to end if a dreg melees you at the same time. Swords suck. Straight up. But buffing the damage wouldn’t make me use them either. They just don’t feel good to use.
