So, Lodestar isn't too special, with other weapons, namely trace rifles, being able to apply Jolt without needing a special X activation to do so. I still enjoy using it though. Why?
Its primary ammo. Honestly, I feel trace rifles should all just be primary ammo. They aren't worth the special slot. If its a special weapon, it should do a lot of damage, and these don't hit that mark. They're more like a super stable auto rifle. That's all.

Most of them could be turned Primary. The exceptions being Microcosm and Divinity. Microcosm is like a whole class of its own, it is a DPS powerhouse, moving it from Heavy to Primary would be a major nerf. Divinity is also unique, it does some damage but its main niche is that it can debuff big bosses so that a fireteam can clear a DPS faster, by making it Primary it would probably reduce that effect essentially nerfing its main function.

That’s what i thought of Trace Rifles for a while. I don’t know how Microcosm is but they’re Primary Weapons disguised as Specials (except Lodestar which is literally a Primary)
-
You have no idea how broken the exotic traces would be in PvP if they were just swapped to be primaries Coldheart in particular
-
It is just a normal Trace rifle but with infinite ammo, and that is why it is exotic. Similar to the other Special exotics with infinite ammo.

Bungie: We’re running out of ideas.

Trace rifles need to be primary ammo or need a purpose as a special weapon that rocket sidearms don't just do better. I'd actually use Prometheus Lens if it were a primary. Same with wave splitter.

The only reason why I'd use a trace rifle like Lodestar is because it doesn't use special ammo. The only other time I'd use a trace rifle is when I've been assigned as the Div-b*tch in a raid.

Edited by Ferus Lux: 3/14/2025 8:10:19 PMThe others are too strong to be primary ammo and nerfing them to be on par with primaries would result in them being spicy Auto Rifles with bigger mag size, more range and zero recoil. Lodestar turns into Pulse Rifles when aimed to set itself apart for this reason.

I've always disliked trace rifles because they're boring AF, they're just a plain Lazer that's extremely underwhelming to use and their sound effects are usually bland and muted. They just don't feel as satisfying to use as literally every other weapon type. There's no controller rumble and next to no recoil, so they just feel super boring to use. I definitely agree they don't justify taking up your special ammo slot especially compared to a rocket sidearm, glaive or sniper - exotic or not, though they definitely don't justify taking up your exotic slot, especially with verb perks. Prometheus lens is ok, the void one that creates orbs is kinda fun here and there too, but I'd never choose it over a sidearm or even most legendary primaries! That said, I fkn LOVE lodestar! The fact that it uses primary ammo but does the same amount of damage is almost good enough on its own. It also works way better over longer distances with the pulse rifle-like ADS fire and the jolting alt-fire charges super quickly, especially when using an arc subclass, giving it excellent synergy. It's also a lot more satisfying to use, partly because of the jolting and pulse fire, but the sound effects are just so much better than every other trace rifle in the game. This gun has made me appreciate trace rifles again, but only the ones with subclass verbs, but I never use any weapon that doesn't have those anyways.

Stop collecting points. It's pointless - old
So it actually does more damage than a regular gun..... they would have to nerf the damage of it before making it like any other primary -
I love Lodestar, the rest I don’t care for the same reason, not worth the special spot
