So as a fan of Tattoos, and as a prior military guy that was loosely related to the Navy begrudgingly, us Marines tend to like things such as tattoos.
I want to get a few more at some point, currently only got a Celtic dragon on me shoulder. I like tattoos and find them to be kind of creative.
I know that society has had rough history with those with tattoos, but not everyone with them is a criminal or sailor.
My main question to you today is what are your first thoughts when you see someone covered in tattoos?
Personally I see either one of three types of people:
1. A creative artistic person who may seem different but are still fun pleasant people to be around and full of energy.
2. You found the old salt-dawg sailor at a bar as he discusses this one time he was at sea and he seen the Kraken.
3. I find that I have interpreted multiple red flags of someone who did some time locked up, and I can read a story based on imagery that was used or placed in specific areas without them saying a word.

Sadly? Mental illness. That is the unfortunate context in which I usually encounter people covered in tattoos. Especially things like facial tattoos and other ones in …ahem..”unconventional” locations. But in my experience it’s more about what the person has tattooed on their body rather than how many. Where they get them, and what they are really kind of gives you a window into how their mind works and what they think about. Tattoo on mind, before tattoo on body….

I feel like the tattoo stigma is completely gone - and has been for quite some time. The only time I'm surprised by a tattoo these days is when I see it on some really old lady or a person I never imagined would get one.

If I see someone "covered" in tattoos I know that either there going to be insufferable or the nicest person you meet that day.

I dont have tattoos, but they are pretty common nowadays. I dont think much other than perhaps 'neat Tattoo' -
Edited by Upperclass Bum: 3/12/2025 12:52:33 AMI feel like your third point is quite common among people (especially people sans any ink) and it's incredibly presumptuous. That's me. If when looking at my ugly face you made the assumption that I've done time, you'd be completely wrong. Only negative interaction I've even had with law enforcement is getting a much deserved speeding ticket (was doing +90 in a 75) ETA: too many people, and again, especially people that don't have any tattoos have way too many stupid takes that are very dated on the subject to the point that I don't even like participating in the conversation even passively, hell, some examples are in this thread. A lot of notions of what a tattoo should be. Literally shut up (not directed at you OP). My first more on topic edit apparently didn't save 'cause this app is still bad, but to answer your question, I tend not to make assumptions based on a person having tattoos or rather particular ones in specific places, unless there's obvious observable behavior that can be associated with whatever assumption(s) initially comes to mind. In general, I strive to not be a judgemental -blam!-, so~~~

Unless it’s something really bold and eye catching I don’t really pay attention. Nor do I assume anything bad off the bat. Now, if I look at your facial expression and you look like you wanna break things and hurt ppl then I’ll avoid you lol

I like thought out designs rather than random ones scattered around. I don't like ones on the face or neck because it might be cool when you're twenty-something, but it's there forever. I like when people can use them to cover scars. Saw a women with a double mastectomy who had a flowered crop top tattoo. She was able to walk around with no top on and nobody even noticed. She felt liberated.

I get having a tattoo as a personal memory or way to express themselves. I just do not have positive impressions of someone who is covered with them. Discreet ones for remembrance, or people who have served in the military with strong ties to their comrades in arms, stuff like that, fine. I've seen some that are great works of art and very well done. My honest assessment; (and it's not likely to be popular) My 'first' thoughts usually only pertain to individuals who are covered in tattoos. My outstanding initial thought otherwise is that the individual wasted money on something that will look like a kindergarten art drawing when they get old. Discreet, hidden, and aesthetically refined tattoos I normally have no exception to. Not unless the tattoo is overtly dark/negative. That tells me all I need to know. Far too frequently those who are absolutely covered with them seem to be either individuals that people normally give a wide berth to, or just over affluent hipsters. I've seen far many like this on financial assistance to get by day to day. It's sad and perturbing that they do not know how to place proper priority in their lives. I truly do not understand what compels someone to do this, outside of tribal or islander rights of passage. If you have them covering above your collar line and on your face, relating to gang ties or dark influences, you probably belong incarcerated. I think that most younger people who get them today only get them because it is the latest fad. It was never before as prominent as it has been in the last 10 years. However, at the same time I'm never going to tell anyone that they can't get them, nor do what they want.

Depends on the designs. Typically gang/prison tats are much different from recreational or military related tats. I do tend to think that tattoos are very neat though (one more year until I’m legally allowed to get one) and I’d probably think that you are a cool individual. Being against tattoos is (in my opinion) an antiquated view as society has become far more accepting of ink just so long as it’s not any gang affiliation or neo-nono Germany iconography.

where am i… - old
I was never a real fan of tattoos but I know my father got a bald eagle on his back, pretty sure he got that when he was 16 - 20 or so -
Depends on where all the tattoos are and what the person looks like. Personally I think people can look great with tattoos but they have to be done right. Patterns and designs are cool and stuff. I think if you are going to have tattoos, you have to have a lot or at least more than 1. If you have a small amount of tattoos they look out of place. I don’t like edgy tattoos at all like “cut here” or stuff like that cause it’s just cringe. I am also attracted to woman with tattoos because well… idk I just like it

I like tattoos and need to get the ones I have finished.

If its a lady with tatoos I have a whole bunch of thoughts I cant describe here without getting banned

Tbh, I don’t think I immediately assume anything about the person. I tend to just have an opinion on the tattoos. Usually that I don’t like them. A small tattoo I can sometimes think is cool, but when someone’s covered in them, I tend to think it looks kinda dumb.
