Bungie name mix up
Hey y’all, this is mostly for someone that works at Bungie, but maybe it’ll help someone else might be able to benefit from this. I used to play Destiny 1&2 on my PS4 a while back and never had many problems. Stoped playing for a while, got a PS5, and recently started playing again after my daughter got me back into it. I tried to download all my PS4 stuff onto the 5, but I think there was a slight technical glitch. Instead of my PS name popping up, Buceman and the #numbers, it was Guardian2296#4157. I really didn’t notice at first and when I did I couldn’t figure out how to fix it. I’ve been playing like this for a few months, but finally asked my daughter if she could help me figure it out because it looks dumb and I wanted to use some of the money on my PS account, but it wouldn’t let me. She got on Bungie.net and got me logged in, but it’s saying that I can’t change my name back to Buceman because it’s already been changed once, but I didn’t change it to Guardian2296. Is there anyway to get it changed or am I just stuck looking like what my daughter calls a “blueberry”?

Edited by BNGHelp8: 2/27/2025 8:41:55 AMHey there, when we first log into the game, our 'Bungie Name' is set to match the platform name of the account we first log in with. If this name can't be used for any reason, usually due to hitting the name filter, then we receive a default 'Guardian' name instead. We all have three name changes, meaning the 'only change once' message is misleading and can be ignored. If you're able to enter a new name and submit it, this is proof that you have name changes available. If the name is not saving, then it is again being rejected by the filter - I'm not sure why it doesn't like your PSN platform name, but if it rejected it the first time you logged in, it means it will also get rejected if you try to manually change your name to it. You'd have to try something else, until something does go through.
