Final Fantasy VIII-esque Gun-Blade

I was just thinking how neat it would be to have an exotic gun-blade, ala Final Fantasy VIII. What kind of perks do you guys think would be cool to see on it?

I think it would need some sort of explosive effect, like the sword equivalent of Dragonfly.
