Should D2 let us pick which expansions to have installed like CoD does with its different modes?

That’s not how it works. Destiny 2 doesn’t segment it’s expansions, it’s literally all one game. Buying expansions simply unlocks content already in the game itself.

Apples to apples please. The cod from this year is not connected to any other cod. If making a comparison, you should try to compare similar products. Your post is like comparing a supermarket to a paper mill.
