Practice Makes Imperfect Tatakoi Plains, 6:00 Natalie "Nat" Elidan "Breathe. Five seconds in, three seconds out. Repeat it. Feel it. Feel the heavy breaths, feel the weight behind them. Feel it pull them down on your lungs like rocks." Natalie's hand guided the staff in her hand. She felt the weapon running along the length of her arm, across her back. She saw the head of it pointed at the tree downwind from her, the glowing purple crystal staring at the bark like a dog stared down a treat. She saw the tree restlessly rustle, the leaves falling gracefully onto the grassy ground below them. It was calming, a state much like a trance that she put herself into. The tree shook violently as it slipped out of the ground, snaking it's roots up and into the air above it. Then with a spin of her staff, Natalie brought it to the front side of her person and sent the tree flying somewhere behind her. It skidded to a halt on the ground maybe fifteen feet away, and she held the staff with either hand now. The power in her weapon felt living, it felt strong. She lifted it once more and sent it flying into the air now, like an eagle soaring high. It hit an eagle, funnily enough, which made Natalie laugh at the comparison. The tree came crashing down to earth a moment later although a burst of energy knocked it off the path, sending it flying outwards and away from Nat like a baseball when hit by a big, invisible bat. • "Huh. Well that explains why you didn't fly into the spaceships up in the sky, your resistance kept you close?"

  • "Usually gravitational magic like that wouldn't be that resisted, but yeah, I guess." Traci shrugged.

  • "Normal combat magic. Y'know, fireballs and the sort. Nothing too complicated like gravity. The more complicated the magic the less resistance. I have no resistance to mind control or influence magic though no matter how strong it is."

  • Traci giggled a little. "Well, you seem smart enough to me, but that's probably not saying much."

  • "Hmm....No, I think you're ego is big enough. Telling you you're pretty would probably be a bad idea right now." She finished her drink with a smile.

  • Watching her was the monk, known as Xiong, whom was meditating whilst she had done her practice. Pleased with her beginning to somewhat improve, Xiong stood up, and, using his bo staff similar to a cane, walked over to Natalie. “Very impressive use of the ground to your advantage.” He had told Natalie.

  • "Huh?" Nat quizzically inquired, her face contorting to give a look of confusion. She wasn't trying to use the ground; she was trying to break it.

  • “Hm...” was his thought. He seemed like a figure that meant to cause confusion...mostly because he seemed very distant. “Breaking it will help in various interests, but it is my belief that you can’t simply learn to ‘break the ground’? What happens if the enemy happens to sidestep, or perhaps survive?” He had asked Nat, showing his bo with its 4 buttons.

“Not always. There will be more powerful beings out there, dear Natalie. Which is why you must be used to...other arts.” He had told Nat, activating his bo staff to reveal two sharp blades at the tip of each side of the bo. As to how he knew her name without her saying it? Probably something the monk would know:

  • “Meditating, sure. But beyond that, unfortunately no. Plus, it seems your wooden stick seems to only control earth...perhaps you may vary your abilities. Include fire? Water? Healing, perhaps?” The monk asked, looking at Nat’s staff.
