The point is, this game is dead.
Everything is done, no content as you have said yourself that they didn't want people shooting straight through it.
I could play Shaq Fu 1994 and still have more fun then D2.

Then play something else. No one forces you to play anything, especially if you get no enjoyment out of it. Why would you do that? I enjoy the heck out of the game. Still not bored with it. To me, it's not dead. I always have friends online on it. I never have a problem finding groups. People keep saying it's dead. I don't see the coffin.
