Resident Evil 2 was a masterpiece. It managed to improve on the creepiness factor of the first while ramping up the "thrill" factor. It's one of those rare sequels that is better in every conceivable way than the original.
The soundtrack was beautiful and is still the best out of all Resident Evil games to date. (IMO at least)
The "A / B" game mechanic was also brilliant and ramped up the replay factor in a way that was unheard of for a game of its kind. It was basically four games packed into one, each with drastic differences that made each play through tense and exciting.
I can't wait for the remake... but to be honest I'm also a bit worried for it.
