Can someone explain the rationale for restricting beta access to individuals who preordered the game? Isn't that like giving free samples to the customer who just bought the sample product?

You're really not missing out on much. Utterly disappointed in D2 so far myself

It's (Just assuming here) to lower the stress put on the servers. You don't wanna toss so much on the server at one time, the login issues at the very beginning I think state that enough, so many had early access and the servers started caving in.
-
It's early access by like 3 days. It's a reward for pre orders. You can play in the beta, you just have to be patient.
-
I cant imagine playing the beta for 3 days muchless the whole duration. Done the mission twice and found the pvp sweaty....being a mostly solo player and knowing pvp is stuck in 4v4 I'm kinda disappointed.
-
No it's called "rewarding loyal fans without prior information "

Except there is an open beta. Pre-order is just a few days longer
-
To persuade people to pre-order obviously.
-
It's this new concept called "customer appreciation".

Honestly games can change so much from beta to gold, especially Bungie games, that I can't say I would be inclined to make a purchase strictly based on beta play. I can't say I trust Bungie on that front.

yes- after 5th time i deleted/downloaded. Took an hour to install- waiting for me when i get home from work now-yay!!!

Yes, how dare they reward their loyal customers. Also, the Beta transitions to an Open, as in available to all, on the 21st.

Edited by DidacticRhetoric: 7/18/2017 6:27:29 PMMy bad, didn't know this. That makes sense. Ideally if the product is good, you want as many people as you can get to get their hands on the beta.
-
Exactly. Which is why we are opening it up to everyone on the 21st.
-
It's for stress testing so the server doesn't crash when everyone signs in at once.
-
So why restrict it?
-
That's exactly what the beta is for. To test the limits of the servers and get as many people to try to find glitches as possible.
-
Open beta starts the 21st. Anyone can play then.

My bad, didn't know this.
