You are right nothing has changed. This game has not improved or actually expand with playable content.

I didn't expect more content until Rise of Iron, that part is fine. It's the decisions Bungie makes that show how inept and shortsighted their leadership is.

This game is lacking in so many area's and the nerfing in this game with not separating the balance between PvP and PvE killed it for me.
