Yup, we've got a new map of... a quarter of the known universe, charting 1.2 million galaxies. Each one of course containing ...well, billions of stars. Estimates for our own galaxy put it at 100-400 billion.
Mind boggling. Beautiful. Majestic. Beyond imagining.

1 ReplyBut we are still special and made in god's image right?

3 RepliesI swear to -blam!- there better be aliens on one of these galaxies.
-
What the hell is that? It looks like cat throw up after eating squash and carrots.
-
It's beautiful...incredible. I'm speechless.
-
Lol like what? This is earth
-
4 RepliesHow exactly does one make a map of a quarter of the universe when we haven't even left our own Solar System yet? Not saying this is fake, I'm just curious.
-
4 RepliesBeautiful to think of the gargantuan, open universe we're a tiny part of.
-
It looks like colorful sperm

3 RepliesI don't understand how anyone can believe in their petty religion after seeing this. If a god did make this, he exists on such a plane as to be unknowable to minds such as ours.

Earth is flat
doesn't matter, had sex
Beautiful. Come, my fellow nerds. My fellow losers, my fellow Vape Lords. Lay down thy guns, thy shanks, thy toilet paper. Actually, keep the toilet paper. For we will explore, discover, and expand the human race. Let us reach to the cosmos... And release upon this galaxy...
The power of VAAAAAAAAAPE!!

1 ReplyEdited by f3: 7/20/2016 6:13:26 PMIt looks like macaroni art. Jesus probs made it and had God put it on the fridge.

*whistles* And here we are on this little blue planet killing each other...

5 RepliesI was never a fan of Sagan-esque rants about how insignificant humanity is, but this is still mind-blowing.
-
It looks like a piece of psychedelic art. Or what happens when you stare at a bright light and then close your eyes Also it's noteworthy that this is just 'a quarter' of the 'known' universe. At the very least there's 4 times that much stuff in the universe and then God knows how much extra that we don't know about.
-
6 RepliesWow. There really isn't a big enough deal being made about the fact that we even have the capability of mapping 1/4 of the freaking universe. Even if it's only on a galaxial scale, that's astonishing.
-
It's amazing how beautiful a picture of red and yellow dots are
-
I've always loved space.

2 RepliesReplace galaxies with gender and you have social media.

4.8 million galaxys... That's a lot of suns and planets.

9 RepliesEdited by Tilyu: 7/20/2016 8:54:05 PMYet we dont know what the deepest part of our own ocean looks like.

Nice.

God how insignificant are we... if that doesn't put it in light I doubt anything short of deep space travel will..
