I never played Morrowind which was very loved. One thing I keep hearing about is that there were no maps, compasses and markers. Something that has always, intrigued me.
What I'd like for Bethesda to do (which they'll never do because they care more for the casuals now) is to make none of that stuff available at the start of the game.
Instead, you should be able to buy/find these items later on in the game. Get confused of your whereabouts? Purchase a map and/or a compass. And most importantly, be able to write down stuff on the map yourself.
For instance, I always get confused with Bethesda's maps. The names of all places are so random and different. It's sometimes hard to look for something that I wanted to go back to. I'd like to be able to write down "Yo, here's that store that sells that stuff you need from time to time. It's expensive though, so be sure to have some gold on you", stuff like that.
And then there could also be smaller maps that cost less and bigger maps that cost more. And if you're set on fire by a magic user, then you have the risk of flammable items to burn up, like maps.
And I guess compasses can break too. You could either repair it or buy a new one.
That's what I would like to see. But I know Bethesda won't do this. -_-
