Where destiny year 2 went horribly wrong.... I played destiny from launch pretty much straight for a year and a half. Loved year one despite short comings. Year 2 started off well but after 4 months I quit and probably will not be coming back and here is why 1. No significant additional content. We had 3 raids year one if you count Prison of elders. This game's bread and butter is raiding and crucible. Year 2 had only one and all the other dlc have been fluff for the most part with minimal benefit to character development. But the problem goes way deeper than having just one raid. 2. Oryx raid is too damn hard. The crota and Atheon raids were great. As an elite player you could find 4-5 random people and regardless of skill level get though in a manageable time frame. This is because in previous raids the boss fights consisted of 2-3 tasks that you could split into groups to accomplish, and the good players can over come inexperience of casual players. You might as well forget beating hard oryx unless you have 5 other highly experienced really good players. This is because everyone have to preform a specific task for that boss fight and there is no room for error or ability to pick up slack for other players short coming. I can't tell you how many times I would spend hours trying to beat just oryx over and over and over and over because of others failing responsibilities over and over and over. The oryx raid is already too long regardless of how good your team is and it is extremely difficult to find 5 other random elite players on the forum. 3. Way too difficult to max out levels. At first I loved the infusion system until I realized how impossible it was to max out weapons. I put in 4 solid months of year two destiny and put countless hours into it bet hard oryx raid about 20 times (only 4 times challenge mode). What do I have show for it 1 maxed out legandary primary 1 maxed out exotic primary and 3-4 maxed out secondary weapons. I like to rotate weapons and mix it up so not being able to max out the majority of my vast major weapons after 4 months is crap. Plus I never could get a 320 ghost or mark. So now I got 3 319 characters and the only way to max out is to hope for a lucky random drop....sounds like fun. Why do I have to go through same raid over and over and over in hopes of getting things I need? 4. How hard is it to put together a decent storyline. This might seem nit picky since I had so much fun anyway but in the end a could storyline might have helped me identify with my characters better and keep my interested. At times I felt I was just controlling robot killing Machines with no soul. These problems are so clearly obvious. Hopefully destiny developers can climb down from that high horse that year 1 put them on and come up with a better game plan for destiny 2. I recommend going back to basics and keeping your end target users in mind. I'm assuming you want a mix of experienced and casual players. Make raids a little more manageable in future will be the biggest help. It will also cut down on some of the segregation going on. Do we really need another DOTA
