I like this. I'm the type of person that debates simply for the mental exercise. It's very rarely because I have a pony in the race. It's almost a mini game to see how intelligently someone can prove their side. Im a super laid back dude in person, but I'll still have a good debate.
I think it comes from dealing with the general public for years. When someone is an ass you need to be able to come back with something that is still polite but makes them realize they're an ass.

Haha yup, pick apart the sentence and exploit the weakness. It's like verbal red rover, and it's much more fun in person.
