Dear Bungie,
I'm a long time player of your games, since the Xbox days of Halo C.E. Up to Destiny, you've sideways impressed with story, gun play, and pushing the limits of multiplayer. Destiny is your most ambitious title since Halo 2. However, it seems that there have been set backs, shortcomings, disappointment, and balance issues almost since day 1.
I first was made aware of Destiny through my employment at gamestop, the idea of a MMOFPS made by the studio who created halo? Instantly my gamer heart was hooked, this would be the game that changes the industry again, this was the game that would surely never leave my Xbox.
Sept 9, D-Day, it came. It finally came. Destiny was truly here in all its glory, after selling the game during a midnight release, handing out copies of the game only made the anticipation for my copy even more intense. I quickly rushed home to open my copy and play before going to sleep and work the next day.
The title screen: Destiny, The overture of an orchestra begins reminiscent of my first gaming love halo, sends me quickly to a childhood memory, Press A to start whips me back to the moment, I begin.
Character creation. This would be my first disappointment (albeit a small one) I would have to endure. Everything was bland, hair styles that echo a German disco-tech, face templates that range from caveman to anime. There was no true customization, noting that many Rpg, fps, & MMO have, this was something else, almost a joke. face paint? I quickly pushed my annoyance aside and created my guardian.
I'm going to jump right into the PvP, the crucible. I feel there is to much I can gripe about with the story and this article isn't meant to bash.
The beginning crucible was perfect, every gun had a personality, every gun had a best used when Situation. Then the first balance patch. Auto rifles got hit and hit hard. They became useless, only the insanely gifted our the newest new jack would use them in the crucible. Pulse rifles and hand cannons became the staple of the newly tuned meta. Buffs and Nerfs became the standard and I feel that in trying to make the game fair, the patches have turned the game into use this gun set up to get the most kills type of game and thats not what destiny used to be.
The most recent weapons patch has made the game all but unplayable to me. My game heart still wants to play but I will not play until certian issues have been dealt with. Many hard core players have already left for other games, of course this isnt anything new. New games come out and old games get the backburner, yet only great games get put back into consoles to be played again.
I wish to see this game continue, I want to see Destiny reclaim the intensely positive media noise it once had, I want to see Bungie get positive feedback and not bashed for making bad decisions, or continuing to deal crap hands to its dedicated player base.
I want to help. If anyone from the game design team see this or anyone relative to this position stands to read through all this please, send me a pm, or an email. I'd love to give feedback and balance ideas to help this game get off the ropes and back into the fight.
My time is free, my passion is gaming.
