Here is a trick buy exotic gun mote it all the way up to last upgrade buy 1 upgrade and dismantle boom 2 exotic shards for cost of 1 and 10-15 motes.

I never knew that worked. I noticed my year ones all gave me 2 shards when I dismantled them but I wasn't sure why. Thanks for the tip!
