There was much more reset-day endgame content pre TTK
Weekly heroic, nightfall, VOG, crota, POE 34 and 35.
Now its KF and NF (*cough* weekly heroic with more mods)
Its all the quests and whatnot that make TTK seem to have more content,

You are joking right? Basic vanguard gear was higher light level than the VOG gear.

But you could use etheric light to bring those items up to the same level.
