I'm lds. I think that a lot of criticism in this thread is exaggerated. Yeah we have unique beliefs, but for the most part we are just normal people. I live in Utah, and it is definitely not run like a theocracy. We have city councils, meetings, votings, just like normal people. We definitely keep religion out of our professional lives. To open work meetings or city council meetings with prayer would be considered extremely unprofessional where I live in Utah.
Yeah we have some pretty weird beliefs, but I don't think it's doing any harm, since for the most part we try to accept all that is good. It's in the tenets of the church that we believe in anything that is praiseworthy or of good report, including things that aren't Mormon, or even religious in nature.
