The difference in your analogy is that I get nothing useful from trashing junk mail. At least when I dismantle a blue gun I get some parts and glimmer.
But yeah, fair point. For players like yourself, who want to level up and try every gun they receive, you're probably going to find yourself short on materials a lot of the time. I would think that the Gunsmith selling weapon parts at least partly alleviates that issue, though. On the other hand, I would also think that players like yourself are not the majority. If they adjust the economy to accommodate the extreme ends of the range, the players in the middle (who are the majority) are going to find themselves flooded with stuff we don't need or even have space for. They are never going to strike a balance that works for every type of player.
