Liquid water has recently been found on Mars so we already have a potential candidate for future life. Mars it already easy (relatively speaking) to terraform to livable standards.

We would have to find a way to give Mars a magnetic field to prevent the solar wind from stripping away the atmosphere and to block the solar radiation.
