This analogy is completely off base. 1) You actually own the car, you bought a physical object. However you do not own the rights to the brand which the car was manufactured. 2) Software is not a physical medium which you can own unless you write it yourself. You bought a physical disc which you own but cannot own the IP on the disc. You sign an agreement to get access to said content. A better analogy is like a book series. Unless you keep buying more books to complete the series, you can't progress any further and are stuck where you stopped buying the books. In the books is a story which you do not own, the author owns the story which you paid to READ, you didn't buy the rights to the story.
