I think she ate one of the worms. The reasoning is that when a hive is born (from a pupae) they are fed a scapal worm whole by a wizard and may be the reason for their appearance and she ate one to blend in. There is also a patrol mission from the moon where you collect these worms.

She can't have eaten of the worms. They'd consume her for not following their will. Rather, I bet she stole their eyes.
