An apology without sincerity, or a genuine understanding of why it was wrong, is a smattering of useless words cast out into the wind.
Only apologize when you believe it.

That's where education comes in. But that mostly depends on what type of person you are. I know why Hicksville is offensive, but I know many people don't know why Noland's tweet is offensive. A simple Google search of the word transgender might clear that up. But that all depends on the person and if they are willing to educate themselves. But I have faith that people can use google.
