I don't think you get the checkpoint unless you die. I don't really care if he did get it, it was for our amusement and we did laugh quite heartily. I just don't like it when people join without asking. He was getting kicked any way, we had a full team. I just felt like being a bastard about it

Chances are he didn't know you were at that point. But yeah; random joins are annoying. Especially if one of your team was just switching x)
