I hated them too but after a few Raids and a few dozen PVP games I can say I'm honestly a fan.
Maybe wait to see what's involved in the guns?
I have a suspicion it will be an involved and engaging process to upgrade (think the upgrade path of Necrocasm, but not sucky). Lots of quests, bounties, XP, purchasing, etc.
But what do I know? Lol
If true though, it might not be worth the chase if you dislike the Titan in general.

I just didn't like the Titan myself because I thought it was too slow to move around on and because of the mediocre melee. But I can't argue that Titans aren't very useful in PvE activities
