The oldest snake fossil on record looks almost like a modern snake, except for one glaring difference: It has four feet, each with five digits, a new study finds.
The roughly 120-million-year-old snake, dubbed Tetrapodophis amplectus (literally, four-legged snake), likely didn't use its feet for walking. Instead, the appendages may have helped Tetrapodophis hold onto a partner while mating, or even grip unruly prey, said study co-researcher David Martill, a professor of paleobiology at the University of Portsmouth in the United Kingdom.
Previous research has detailed two-legged snake fossils, but this is the first known snake ancestor to sport four legs, he said. It likely evolved from terrestrial-burrowing creatures, and was a transitional animal that lived during the shift from ancient lizards to modern-day snakes, he added.

7 RepliesThey found fossilized Satan?
#biblejoke
How complete is the fossil?

Weirdly enough, Genesis states that snakes had legs before God took 'em away for fooling the silly hoomans. Not trying to argue or anything like that, but definitely interesting.
-
But Genesis stated that the snake had legs before god removed them..
this doesn't help the evolution argument but is still interesting
3 RepliesIt's fake. There should be more fossils like that one instead of just a handful

2 RepliesHyperion hopes your thread's death was a learning experience, but wouldn't mind if you made the same mistake just a few more times just to be sure.
-
2 RepliesIt was also fabricated.

2 RepliesThat's just a new type of snake not a transitional fossil. Can you find transitions between that and the last snake and the snake with absolutely no legs? No? Hah, two new gaps in the record, loser.

10 RepliesAll snakes have feet, just that they've somehow disliked them and they were put INSIDE THE SNAKE they weren't used. The Bible (ooh a scary topic) actually answered this by saying that the snakes punishment for giving the apple to eve was that he lost his legs and so did his race. So yeah garden of Eden 120 million years ago.

Looking at modern snakes and legless lizards it's not difficult to reach that conclusion.
-
Cool. That's very interesting.

6 RepliesThe Bible describes snakes as having legs and walking until Eve is deceived and God curses them to be stuck eating dirt for eternity

Bump just because.

If you've never seen a python's pelvic spurs before, they're little vestigial claws left over from when they had feet. They look almost exactly the same as lizard claws.

Very interesting... I would make another comment but I'd rather not be roasted by Britton.

3 RepliesWhile I'm not a creationist or even religious, that argument can still apply to Trilobytes. First there's little shells and soft-bodied stuff and then BAM! Trilobytes outta nowhere ~500Ma.

3 RepliesAnd now they have two penises. Good trade.
