Advice on Quiting Destiny

Now this isn't some "I'm sick of Destiny and all it's bullshit!" rant post. I'm honestly thinking of quiting Destiny all together. So why don't I just leave? Because I feel addicted. For the past 9 or so months, I feel like my life and all my free time has revolved around Destiny. No other video game has consumed so much of my life like Destiny has. It would be one thing if I really enjoyed the game, but half the time I don't, I just find it frustrating. Recently one of my closest friends, who played Destiny with me a bunch, completely deleted Destiny from his hard drive and confessed that "it was an unhealthy habit". I wasn't in the slighest bit upset. Inatead i felt proud of him, because I agree, it is an unhealthy habit. Now i'm not sure if I could ever bring my self to delete all my hard work in Destiny. After all; I have this weird philosophy that you should never get rid of proof of labor. And even though it's just a video game, I feel as though I have put a lot of hard work into Destiny. But i'm getting a bit desperate. I may be asking the wrong group here, but here goes nothing. What advice can you guys give on how to quit Destiny? I've been trying to fill in the gap by playing other video games, but I have nothing new to play, and other games just aren't keeping me quite as entertained (it's like Destiny is crack and other video games just feel like weaker, lesser drugs). When I discovered the Mass Effect series in January of this year (amazing series btw), I felt like I could just enjoy Mass Effect whenever I got frustrated with Destiny. Now that i've beat that trilogy, i've got very little to occupy my free time other than Destiny. This addiction has got to stop. I have no incentive to play this game anymore, and yet it's all I think about. Some people may say to "just pace yourself better and play in smaller sessions", but i'm too affraid I'll get sucked in all over again. I never tought that i'd look at "3 days of no Destiny" as a milestone! So what advice can any of y'all give on how I can quit the addiction that is Destiny?

    • 1. Take the disk out 2. Put a different game disk in 3. Play a different game There's nothing in destiny to be addicted to, the gear is all mostly the same. Even with different states they really don't change who things work to much. The guns are all kinda meh as well. I'm hoping with TTK they will change things up and make chasing gear actually worth it. But we'll just have to see.

    • Get another game. Come back to Destiny later. I play in spurts. Also, maybe neglect 1 or 2 of your characters from time to time. This game lets people see they have a video game addiction, as I did. Now I play sparringly, if at all. I was off for 2 months, came back, it was fun again

    • I'm in a similar boat. The weapon update was the final straw for me and Bungie has ticked need off do much, I haven't played since the morning after it was announced... If I hanger being able to do that, I'd probably do what your friend did. If I couldn't quit on my own, delete everything and make it much easier.

    • Don't quit yet. Just don't buy TTK and quit in September. Not buying it will make it easier to quit.

      • I'd have to agree with your friend, delete it from your hard drive. One simple thing is that it doesn't delete what you done so if you ever put it back in then it's saved to your gamer tag not the game itself.

      • God of War 3? Play something FUN! There are so many amazing games coming out. Unchartered Collection? 4? Star Wars BF? Horizon? Mirrors Edge? Fallout? Just Cause 3? MGS? Destiny is addictive but it's rubbish. Walk away from it. Get a job. Go out for a run. Just stop playing it dude.

        • I stopped playing Destiny for a while and only got back into it because a friend had started playing. I'm having more fun now I've also joined a group and doing raids though so am happy to keep going. When I stopped I played Far Cry 4, last of us remastered, some forza (have xb and ps), a little driveclub, diablo and finally watched all of the walking dead I'd recorded and never watched.

        • Just trade in the game or delete it off your hard drive and every time you get the urge to play, think about how much you hate it and how it takes over your life.

        • People, this isn't alcoholism or drug addiction. It's a videogame. If you want to keep playing, it's because you like the game and are lying to yourself. If you want to quit, just stop playing. If you really can't just stop playing a game, then videogames aren't for you.

People saying play other games are giving you the wrong idea as you would still be wasting away which you obviously dont want to be doing. Just get rid of your console for a few months do other things then if you do decide to game again do so in moderation. I take those breaks any time I feel too invested in gaming and always come back fresh as a daisy.

          • Don't play smaller sessions. Befriend some hardcore destiny fanatics. Limit yourself to 1 session per week. Hear them brag about all the amazing stuff they did. Slowly increase sessions per week. Kill self. Then slowly dwindle the numbers back and repeat.

          • Smash your disc or uninstall it so you won't be tempted. If that's not enough, delete your vault and characters.

          • When fallout 4 comes out Destiny will get a break. I usually play at night after work a few hours to unwind, but you definitely sound like you need to find a "hobby" mines cars, I tinker and build drag cars on my free time and weekends. Keep everything in balance.
