What exactly did that bomb do that the Zealot used in the city of Sedra? (halo: nightfall)

It released a highly radioactive element using technology similar to how Halo works to disperse the element so it only targeted humans.

It had an element in it native to a piece of installation 04 which was deadly to humans so random people caught in the blast would be infected and eventually die
