Strange coins are the primary reward in addition to rep and marks for completing the Weekly. Anything else is "extra".
I honestly wish that Strange coins were not in the Nightfall loot table.
It should just be gear related - whether it's an exotic or a legendary

I kinda like having them there due to the fact I don't have the DLC any more so I kinda can't do the weakly heroic.
