Evolution is often called a "mechanism" of nature (that's how I was told in school anyways). So let's compare it to a mechanical watch. Just for fun. Take a mechanical watch apart, put all its pieces in a box, and shake that box. No matter how long or how many tines you shake that box, the watch will never come out put together and functioning properly. Is there a chance? Sure, as the basic principle of probability is that there is always a chance. But the chances are so small that its basically impossible. Same with evolution. Is there a chance? Sure. There's also technically a chance I'll grow wings in 10 seconds and fly away. But the chances are so small that its basically impossible. Just a thought.

  • That's not how it works. Evolution is about adapting to environmental changes through natural selection. Creatures suited for a particular environment will survive and pass their genes on while creatures unsuited die. As environments change, so do the creatures by necessity. If they can't adapt, they go extinct. If the environmental change is drastic, they'll evolve in more drastic and divergent ways , and over millions of years that become a new species.

  • Your OP just said evolution is a very small chance of it happening. There for it won't happen. We were created by some kind of God. Which your op basically says.

  • That's not what my OP says. My OP only states evolution has such a small chance of being true its nearly impossible. God was not mentioned.

  • Well since you said that we shouldn't exist because evolution is nearly impossible.

That's not how evolution works. Your analogy is bad and you should feel bad.

  • This comment is offensive sir. You don't have to tell me to feel bad just because your biased opinion on my analogy labels it as bad.

  • That's not how it works. It works like this: Imagine all moths are red, but they live on trees with bark that is white. Birds will easily see the moths and eat them. Then, a moth is born that is a slightly lighter shade of red. It has a slightly higher chance of surviving as it matches the bark's colouration slightly more. This continues for 1,000,000 years and one day all the moths will be white and they will all match the color of the trees on which they live.

Is that moth still a moth? All that your analogy proves is that the same species can change color, not that it turns into a new species, and as you are well aware, everyone already understood that fact.

  • This is a very small example. Right now, moths don't really need to change into something that isn't a moth. For the most part, they are camouflaged to fit whatever kind of plant they eat, they fly about the place and they lay eggs, which is no different to the challenges they have been facing for a very long time. Creatures that are classified as moths (Six legs, small, slightly furry body, has 2 wings that lie flat when the creature is not in flight) are not counted as different kinds of animal due to their colours. All creatures that are six-legged, small, slightly furry and have wings that lie flat when the creature is not flying are considered moths.

  • I always used the clothes in a washing machine. If you turn it on there is a certain probability that when opened all the clothes would be folded, how ever this is so astronomically low it will effectively never happen.

  • I try to explain the same thing about God...there is always a small chance that someone without faith will ever truly accept God but there is still a small chance
