But... Halo 3 was the best in custom games/multiplayer and had a killer story

The story was abysmal. It's one of the chief reasons why it's hated.

I hated halo multiplayer, and custom games were even worse. And I don't really remember the story, because I got bored like 2 hours in and never picked it up again.
