Saying relic implies that it's part of the mission, that it is integral to the task at hand. A piece of equipment like a turret that you can pick up with limited ammo is not like a relic.

But the relic in VoG and the Sword in CE are both for a limited time... If you can only use it in the PoE that implies it is part of the mission... A relic seems like the perfect name, it's not a "Heavy weapon power-up" because one of the guys holding it has a rocket launcher on their back...

Whatever the hell you want to call it, its a big gun that you use to kill things. Personally I don't think the term relic fits, relics are raid oriented. When I said power-up I wasn't implying that it was going to boost your equipped heavy weapon in some way, I meant it in the old-school gaming sense where a bonus item you acquire is called a "power up", doesn't matter though.

I know what a "power up" is... this just looks nothing like a "power up"... Relics only seem to be "raid oriented" to you because we only have had 2 raids so far... PoE is end game content, it very well could have a "relic"

Me too, I have been designated relic holder in both raids normally so I am excited to have a new toy :D.
