I don't even know the Empty Pincushion reference. But still good job.

10,000 needles is a reference to any Final Fantasy game. In that game there is an enemy called Cactuar (wierd looking cactus) who uses a skill called "10,000 needles" That meshes with the fact that the weapon is basicly a Needler from the Halo series
