Why aren't YOU using Shotguns in PVE?
Do share, why don't you use them? And I'd rather have more specific reason than "I don't like them" (which is a valid reason ofcourse), because I'm curious why don't you like them.

Because their range is garbage, and for most pve encounters you want more than 5 feet between you and your enemy.

To be completely honest, I suck with shotguns, PvP or PvE, it kinda sucks because I really wanted to use the Invective and 4th Horseman I have currently collecting dust in the vault (and will most likely end up dismantling for shards)...

I almost switched to a shotty last night but don't have one leveled up so i ran a fusion... I figure a shotgun will make quick work during the templars confluxes when vex warp right in to sacrifice...

I am. I just switch them out for rifles when the strike boss comes around. I cant wait to rock the remote in raids when the buff drops. Be saving errbudies ass laying out them majors like body bags

No decent effective range... a L32 Guardian shooting a maxed out SwordBreaker at a level 8 Dreg at anything other than point black will not be able to kill it. I know, Ive tried it. And even at point blank its useless against L30 enemies and it shouldnt be. SwordBreaker (a void shotgun) against a L30 Preatorian in the VoG loses everytime unless your teammates are backing you up. So: no range and not enough dmg --> USELESS. And I have a maxed out swordbreaker, the veridict, invective, universal remote and a few others. I love blasting critters with a shotgun.. too bad it doesnt work in destiny.

It's obviously a range issue. Unless doing bounties and patrols, the only fun PVE games are raids and NF, Weekly..etc with modifiers. Even at lv 32, against some of the yellow bar mobs, they one shot you (or one sword in Crota's End) using shotgun and risk dying is bad. People use shotgun in any FPS games because they want to one shot (or at the most two shot) their enemies. If post buff with the 200% increase in damage, a lv 32 guardian can one or two shot lv 32, or 33 yellow bar mob, i 'm pretty sure i will start using shot guns again.

Because every boss has a spammable AoE attack that either kills you outright or sends you flying across the map. There's literally no reason to use shotguns, though I'll give them a shot when that patch goes live. Whenever the hell that is.

Prefer snipers as my secondary, that way I don't have to be close to kill

1 ReplyPretty slow and you have to get right in their face for a fast kill. It sucks to kill sword knights unless you can stagger them or 1 shot them down. Cant wait for the buff, hope it helps.

Because at the range that shotguns actually become effective, I can melee the enemy. Shotguns feel like you're running around loaded with #6 birdshot!

I prefer snipers in PvE, because I prefer to keep distance between me and the enemies. There are few times that you need to be that close to an enemy that will require the use of a shotgun.
