Plasma Screen HUD Burn-In

Destiny is console exclusive, which means almost all players play on a television, not a monitor. Many of these players play on plasma screens, millions in fact. The average play session of Destiny is logged by Bungie at 4 hours. I fall around that mark, and that's about all I've used my TV for lately, as I'm sure is the same for many players. This leads to a huge problem, one that may have already permanently damaged my near $3K TV, the HUD is burnt into my display. I'm a very proud owner of the "65in Panasonic VT60, and I paid a very pretty penny for it. Millions of others also playDestiny on plasmas, and the fact is no matter how "worn in" a plasma is, it is still prone to burn-in or image retention. Either can occur after a static image is left on the screen for an extended period of time, like say, playing Destiny for a few hours a day, with no other content appearing on the TV in between. From my recent average playtime, I now have a retained image of the bottom left HUD area burnt in my display; super bar, all 3 weapon slots, among blur where ammo is counted and so on. I left my TV wiping for 12 hours, and the image is still there. (Update 11/19) My TV has been wiping for almost 24 hours, and still has the HUD clearly burned in. (Update 11/20) My TV has been wiping for almost 48 hours straight. The HUD is still there, but instead of a dark gray shadow, it seems to be a tinge of pink. This is a bad sign) There is a simple solution for preventing this, and still being able to enjoy long play sessions. Battlefield 4 got this perfect right off the bat, they added the option to adjust HUD opacity in the video options. This completely stomped the possibility for image retention, and even after hundreds of hours of gameplay I never had a problem. For those who don't know, this option would make it possible to have your HUD slightly see-through so the pixels are being stimulated. This is a very big deal, and has the potential to ruin many plasmas, only from playing Destiny for an average play session, even with days in between. BUNGIE PLEASE, add a simple HUD opacity slider and put all your plasma owners at ease. Love, every Destiny player with a plasma. Please comment to get this noticed.

  • Well most of that is your tv. I use a Samsung and I've never had an image burned in..and I've left it on at the menus overnight a few times. Don't buy plasmas. That's the problem.

    • I have the exact same problem and no they're not outdated. I have a 60in 3D ultra thin plasma and with 600hz refresh rate it's phenomenal for gaming and 3D movies. Please add a slider. Thank you

          • I have a plasma as well. I make sure I do the anti burn in once or twice a week. Seems to work. A quick tip on plasmas as well is to make sure you don't have the brightness or contrast at max. This will increase burn in. Here are some helpful tips: http://www.plasmasaver.com/burnin.html

          • Go through Deejs comment history. An opacity slider is in the works. He's responded to one of these before.

                • This might seem counter intuitive but hook up an hdmi cable to your computer and create a picture (must be fullscreen) of white. And only white. Let this sit on the screen for an hour or so, then power it off for an hour or so, then see how it is. Repeat as necessary. White makes all colours of the pixel activate and essentially resets any burnt pixels. I had this happen to my Tv due to bad burn in from the mine craft HUD, and it solved it after a couple hours. Good luck

                    • Listen, I hear you on having the option to make the HUD opacity slider. I personally like my HUD see through anyway for emergence reasons. But on the other hand, everyone knows about plasma burn in issues. They have been a issue since they released and probably the reason for their imminent downfall. You cant put pressure or blame on Bungie to fix this when you knew the consequences. It all boils down to being lazy and being reactive instead of proactive. You should learn to take care of your expensive electronics better. Just my two cents.

                    • My plasma has a pixel shift thing built in and I use the scrolling white bar feature every few days to get rid of any residual images. Panasonic plasma. Hope to upgrade to a Samsung here one of these days. If they are no longer available I will jump on the 4k bandwagon with a Sony.

                      • It should have an auto pixel shift if it's a nicer plasma. It automatically shifts the pixels on the screen but unnoticeable to the naked eye
