Sorry but they choose to do a full rewrite, probably down to the fact they wanted to make the real game into three parts. One the stuff we get to play when we buy the game, then two DLCs that were removed so they make a bigger profit.
I hope to god someone gives Bungies ex lead writer a job and he can make a better version.

It's a possibility, but cutting the game into multiple parts doesn't require a rewrite of the story, it only requires you to break up the story you already have and package pieces of it separately.

Perhaps but if the DLC levels are mid point in the original story they would have little choice.
