So countries like America and Canada even some Northern European nations give you a fine if you cross the road in a non designated place or when the "Red man" is still showing at the crossing. The British however cross when ever they feel like it and it's up to us to decide if it's safe or not to cross. Does your country have a Jaywalking law? Do you agree with the law? Myself I feel it's stupid to have to walk all the way down the road to a crossing just to walk all the way back up, instead of just crossing opposite where your going. For example my Hotel in America was opposite a little restaurant I ate at every day and no crossings where in sight and so we just crossed over. If I had to obey the law it would have took like 10-20mins to find a crossing.

In California (maybe all of America but im not sure) you're allowed to jaywalk if you're more than a hundred yards from an intersection/crosswalk.

  • Jaywalking? No. I've jaywalked in front of cops before, and they don't care.

  • Jaywalking when you're saving time by crossing the road when you've checked for cars should be fine, I'm not going to walk further to waste time when I can check and cross safely earlier on.

  • It should be illegal. If someone wants to illegally jaywalk, I don't give a shit, but their livelihood is legally on them at that point.

  • I'm pretty sure it's against the law, however I think they tolerate people doing it, just like they tolerate marijuana in the Netherlands

  • I can't imagine even though its against the law you'd get written tickets for it, unless you did something stupid like try to run across Madison Avenue in NYC at rush hour.

    • Its for determination of fault, the driver is almost always responsible for accidents, so a pedestrian in good logic should be crossing in a designated area, that is clearly visible for the car. In my 33 years alive, i have never seen some being given a jaywalking ticket. Lastly stop the retarded VS threads paul.

      • A jaywalking law does not mean it is entirely illegal to cross a street if it doesn't have a marked cross walk. >No crosswalks within a long distance? OK to cross (Just be careful). >There is a crosswalk, but you missed light to cross but you still cross anyway? Not OK. >Cross an intersection or road while cars are driving, forcing a mass stoppage? Not OK.

      • I really don't see the point. If you get run over it's your fault for not looking where you were going, but that doesn't mean it should be illegal.
