YES Pacific Rim is Finally Profitable! [EDIT: No D:]

Sitting at 224 million, the movie has made a profit of about 34 million. Hopefully it continues on and warrants a sequel. Meanwhile Adam Sandler is stuffing money into his pants because of Grown Sh1ts 2
No it isn't, publishers usually make roughly 55% of the total income from the investment. That would mean that it would have to make $345 million to break even. It needs $120 million more. It has yet to open in Japan and China, and this does not include DVD or merchandise sales. For example, Cars made only $417 million in theaters, but later went on to make $10 billion in merchandise, making it the most successful film in history.
^ From the brilliant mind of Quantum

  • Meh, I didn't really like the movie all that much. It'd would be a shame if it didn't profit though. It'd be sad to see the monster-movie genre die. But. as Solonoid said:
The Asians will see the shit out of that movie though.
it was aight, to me it was kinda the same as the avengers movie but with giant robots. -aliens invade earth using portal. -hero takes bomb through portal to asplode the aliens and close the it. -hero passes out as he goes back through the portal but don't worry because he's ok. -humans win.

Pacific Rim 2: Charlie Day accidentally opens another rift and pilots a Kaiju named Day Man to save the world.

      • Can I take this time to voice my small displeasure with how Del Toro set up all these awesome robots and we only get to see Cherno Alpha and Crimson Typhoon in battle once before they are just destroyed? Would have been better to have them fight and die against the Category V Kaiju at the trench. It also would have allowed for the pilots to be more than cardboard cutouts that we see only briefly before being killed.

          • Why is everyone so hyped about this Pacific Rim film? It looks like Transformers but with bigger robots and with monsters.

            • Worse still, I hear that WB apparently sabotaged the advertising of the film, as they didn't want to face against a competitive franchise, due to the split between Legendary Pictures and WB. To add on to that, China has announced a 25% tax on movie revenue, and WB apparently gains an added bonus from international revenue, especially China.

I might be going to see it in the cinema if it's still showing in the UK. But I'll definitely be getting the dvd/bluray.

I'm glad they made a profit from it. I'll actually buy the DVD just to put a little more money in their pocket. It was a good film.

                  • I could see them doing a prequel, no idea how they would continue it seeing that the rift is closed and all the Kaiju are dead.

                      • Funny thing. I organized at least seven of my friends to go watch it, and couldn't make it. Really wish I could have seen it.

It's about time. That movie was incredible, it was very sad to see how little recognition it was getting.

I'm not giving that movie money, because Del Toro is insisting that Tom Cruise star in his adaptation of At the Mountains of Madness.

                        • How are they going to do a sequel? The first pretty much wrapped it all up.

                            • I should add that they should focus more on getting more action in, the shitty acting and cheesy script ruined it a little bit. It is obvious where all their money went, and I hope they try to cut out the filler bullshit.
