The free version will let you initiate scans, and will catch almost anything. Combofix is a bit more powerful, but it has the potential to mess up your system if you don't know what you're doing. malwarebytes.org ... I can't link a .org, I guess. Avast and AVG are great. Heard Microsoft Security Essentials is also pretty good. I've been using AVG for years, but recently went with Avast on my new PC.
