Played Trials some time ago, played some Comp today
and in both experiences i found relatively balanced matches most of the time. No stacks, everyone playing fair and on a similar skill level, and scores were pretty close most games.
Then i hop into a control match, and IMMEDIATELY i get put against sweaty stacks who proceed to wipe the floor with my team.
Seriously, how can pvp be so backwards to the point casuals have a better chance at competitive modes than the self proclaimed ''casual playlists''??

It goes back and forth. Those people used to be in Comp and Trials, but they moved over to Control when everyone left and they had no one to play except each other. The other thing I have noticed is that it's much easier to keep your k/d ratio above 1 in Control than it is in 3v3 modes. For some people this is a bigger deal than winning. You'll notice these people rarely take zones. They prefer to play back at a safe distance and finish off the enemies you wounded while dying trying to take a zone. The result is that you also get credit for those kills so it boosts your k/d ratio too. In Comp that strategy is useless because the entire point is to win (even at the sacrifice of your personal stats) and get promoted to the next rank.

Control is a mess, always will be as long as pve abilities and ridiculously easy to use guns are the meta…throw 3-4 good players on a team, and have them actually trying like its game 7 of trials, then you have a solid reason to experience the 5 mins penalty

Idk, but this past week for me in Control has been kinda crazy. Normally, I can run around and Lone Wolf it and get tons of 1v1 gun duals, and it feels nice and casual. But this whole week, for some reason, I have to stick right with my team, or I'm getting flanked every time I get into a dual. And normally, teams will kind of pick two zones, cap them, and then stick to that area and try to defend them, but this week, either my team, or the other, is instantly rushing the other team's zone as we first spawn in, and the spawns just keep flipping back and forth all match long. That makes it really tough to post up and protect an area, when you're constantly having to run to the other side of the map, because you have enemies spawning behind you.

Because Control is just Clash with extra steps!

Different matchmaking systems for each mode. Control is a big sweaty unbalanced mess lmao

2 RepliesSome people enjoy shooting fish in a barrel. Anywhere players can stack teams and wipe the floor with inferior opponents, you’ll find people doing that. If they can do it in a “casual” playlist, against a bunch of PvE mains, even better for them. Comp tries to match you by rank, so it makes sense you’ll get closer matches there. I’ve always advised players complaining about mismatched teams to try comp. Fair warning: low population makes it difficult to match by rank, so expect mismatches there too (but hopefully less often than other playlists).

1 ReplyEdited by NotCreative123: 11/5/2026 9:01:27 PMLet's define "fair" as everyone being nearly the same skill and having balanced teams. > Comp uses RBMM and Lobby Balancing. It should be the most "fair". > Control uses loose SBMM and Lobby Balancing. It should be the next "fair" mode of the options you listed. > Trials (if you choose the Lighthouse Passage - there are 2 to pick from) uses CBMM and doesn't use any Lobby Balancing. It is the least likely to be "fair". Your personal experience in each of thses modes may vary day to day, but on average, what I've said remains true. In general, if you are a "good" player, then Trials is easiest, then Control, then Comp. If you are a "bad" player, then Comp is easiest, followed by Control, followed by Trials.

1 ReplyI haven't played control in that quickplay playlist since they introduced sbmm which should not be a thing for quickplay. People cried and got it, and now look how bad it is

It’s a shooting game. You play to win the game. Either bring your A-game or don’t.

I play every control match like it’s my last.

To me Comp seems to be most balanced, it uses rank based MM. It's just that comp point system is really harsh, you shouldnt loose so much points per loss. The point system makes it feel so stressfull. If you play Trials there is 2 modes to choose from and the Lighthouse passage is the "harder" one, where MM is really random and sometimes you stand absolutely no chance, you are dead within 5 seconds of the game, its like professional MMA fighter against a toddler that barely walks. Control is really random, because it has more lag than other playlists. Some games are really close, run smooth and you are having fun. Then there is really laggy games where you see strange stuff and you just cant win. And then there is absolute smashing games where you are on the side of stomping or being stomped. So Control has somekind of strange mystery behind its matchmaking, or it just feels so, because playerbase is so divided and depends on which day and clock time you are playing. I see the pattern that playing on days or evenings are abit different.

Sometimes switching characters cures the issue.

Add me as a Bungie friend (Xbox) and let’s have some fun as a team.

5 RepliesI checked your game history and all I seen is Gambit and Lawless Frontier matches. Not hating on your choice of playlists, both are fun, but it really looks like you had one bad match and then made a big post about it.

Edited by JA: 11/5/2026 11:09:44 AMBeen like this for a while now, most people have stopped playing trials as there’s zero incentive to playing it now since they took farming flawless’s and adepts out. The same loot is just given to you for losing games as winning so it’s just become a participation playlist. A lot of players have also already gotten there comp rolls/emblems and armour sets so now it’s just time for them to sit in 6s using broken stuff and sitting on each other to inflate KDs. Sad really but if it’s how they get fun out of the game then fair enough.

2 RepliesMany crucible "pros" don't want competition they want the shallow rush of winning over less skilled players... And they don't get in trouble as bad for being cowards.... Post...
