Hey Bungie team,
I know we're in the twilight phase of the game following the end-of-service announcement back in June, and I genuinely appreciate the recent news about unvaulting older content for those of us still playing. It’s great to see some life being breathed back into the playlists.
That being said, I wanted to bring up a lingering QoL issue that’s still heavily discussed in the community. I know the studio is a massive company with a lot of moving parts, and right now the patch priority is strictly reserved for game-breaking bugs, but I'm hoping this might just take a quick database tweak.
The issue is the Vanguard reputation and reward economy.
The Rep Grind: Vanguard rep gains just don't scale properly with activity length or difficulty. I've played through the entirety of Moments of Triumph and still haven't hit a single Zavala rank reset. The time investment simply doesn't match the payout.
The Scarcity vs. Cost: Because rank-ups are so painfully slow, Vanguard Engrams are incredibly scarce. Right now, vendor-exclusive weapons cost 1 engram, while Onslaught/Arena Ops weapons cost a whopping 3. At this point, spending 3 engrams is completely pointless when you can just play Arena Ops and get those drops at a much higher rate. Furthermore, because Vanguard engrams are so rare to begin with, even the 1-engram cost for vendor-exclusives or standard activity weapons just isn't worth the investment. It essentially locks players out of reasonably farming the loot.
I know overhauling the entire reputation scalar system is probably way too big of an ask at this stage of the game's life cycle. But instead of fixing the rep, could we just get a band-aid fix for the costs?
The Compromise:
Since the 3-engram focusing is redundant anyway, could you guys simply remove the Vanguard Engram cost entirely for focusing Zavala's gear? (Or at the very least, remove it for the 12 vendor-exclusives).
It would be a massive show of goodwill for the dedicated players closing out the game with you guys, and it upholds the standard of respecting player time without requiring a heavy dev lift.
Thanks for reading, and I hope we can get this minor tweak slipped into a future hotfix!

5 RepliesI have given up on focusing anything with Vanguard engrams... I have gotten 25 engrams since MoT started, with most of them trying to farm efficiently to rank up and realizing how little progress was made. So, I have stopped playing vanguard activities other than an occasional GM Alert when the daily mods are good. If the reward path felt rewarding, I would play more and have fun with it. But, its not fun when you are trying to speedrun at lower difficulties all of the time, and after EoF, I just dont even want to touch solo ops again.
